Bio

Dr. Kim Aikens is a physician who has turned a passion for photography into a new career in the world of image creation and fine art. An early adopter of digital technology, she is an expert in both Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. These digital tools allow her to create a wide variety of images including traditional photographic output, digital collage and original digital paintings. She prints all images in her studio on a state of the art large format Epson 9800 printer, outputting her pictures onto the highest quality fine art papers and canvas.

In addition Dr. Aikens also uses encaustic techniques, embedding her photographic images into a hot mixture of beeswax, resin and pigmented oil paints. This process, when finished, results in highly textural, one of a kind mixed media pieces.

Dr Aikens is an avid equestrian and horse lover. This passion and understanding allows her to vividly capture the equine spirit in her work. In addition, as a resident of northern Michigan as well as a frequent visitor to Wyoming, she has ample opportunity to express the beauty around her through her photography.

Dr Aikens currently resides in Petoskey, Michigan with her husband, three children and a myriad of equine companions. She accepts commissioned work as well as offers printmaking services for photographers and artists through her company, Aikens Imagery.
